Usually taking a vacation is a much predictable and thrilling outlook. You are off to visit a new place, or revisit an old, but favorite, destination. It is odd, but true, that most travelers, while spending considerable time, effort and money getting to that first day of vacation, few include writing a travel journal, detailing their adventures, in their plans. It only makes sense that writing a travel journal enhances your experience and memories long after you have arrived back home. Anyone who’s taken a vacation to their dream destination can tell you that those memories fade over time. Writing a travel journal keeps those events fresh in your recall and can offer years of enjoyment. Usually we all stay family photo albums to mark our life events, kids growing up, weddings, graduations and the like. Just a glance at a photo of Mary’s birthday or a backyard barbecue brings the memories of that day back obviously.

The general impressions stay with you, but the most pleasant memories often consist of small events which might be easily forgotten in a few years. However, when you’re traveling, the lot is new. It’s hard to take it all in and record all of these new experiences with only a camera. Buying a cheap tape recorder makes it simple to write a travel journal, without investing much of your time while on vacation. The child’s long braids, fragrant smells from the bakery entrance, her sweet demeanor and the dog getting a bit of her cookie? When you spot a little child, playing with her dog in front of that quaint bakery, record a few words that capture your sensory perceptions. What caught your concentration? It’s the small events that add up when writing a travel journal, making it possible to vicariously revive your vacation in deepness, far into the future. Bring your recorder with you all over the place you go. Hang it from a cord around your neck as you are sightseeing.

Writing a travel journal is somewhat akin to being a journalist. Let’s say you have just toured the Colosseum in Rome. You connected a group hosted by an independent tour guide, a fountain of information on the history and subjective lore. In fact, you’ll learn so much, you might forget half of the knowledge you acquired within a week, apart from you record brief notes and observations as you tour. Use a paper clip to put in the postcards on the pertinent pages of your transcribed notes. Take a few minutes each evening to write out your impressions in as much detail as possible. When you get back home, assemble your notes and postcards in your distinctive travel journal, fleshing out your notes. Writing a travel journal is easy enough.

Postcards are plentifully available and are expensive in jogging your memory when writing a travel journal. You do not even require full sentences – it’s the bare bones flavor of the knowledge you’re after. You don’t need to be an expert writer to create a travel album that allows you and future generations of kids and grandkids to see a bit of the world throughout your eyes in that moment in time. It will be a fascinating read!
